REDI Tourism Business Development Strategy
The Mackenzie Region is seeking to develop its tourism industry as a fourth but equally important business sector to complement its existing economic mainstays - oil and gas, forestry products and agriculture. REDI has established a tourism committee which is investigating opportunities for tourism development in the region.

Currently the forest sector is in a down turn mainly due to a USA housing recession and a high Canadian dollar relative to the USA dollar. While these conditions may continue for the foreseeable future, this review examines the opportunity for forestry in the REDI region over normal market conditions.

Tourism SWOT Report

In the REDI Business Plan 2005 – 2008, the REDI Board identified an action item to “Work with local tourism agencies to facilitate a tourism and travel seminar in the region”. As needs were further defined, Strategy Plus was contracted to assist REDI in compiling information from published sources about tourism assets in the REDI region, statistics and trends, as well as facilitating a workshop session with the REDI Tourism Planning Committee.
